„Green” hydrogen – power-to-gas
Especially suitable for long-term requirements in the future are hydrogen storage systems which use electric power to generate hydrogen which is then stored. This “green” hydrogen produced from wind and solar power can be utilised in many ways, combining the various energy areas electricity, heating and mobility. Possible options are reconversion, use as fuel in the mobility sector and as a resource in industry. Also feasible is integration into the existing natural gas grid by feed-in or conversion into synthetic natural gas (methane).
There is also a strong interest in using salt caverns as storage tanks for pump storage power plants. More technical and business development is required here.
